UAE Company Setup for Non-Residents
A founder who lives outside the UAE can own a UAE company in many cases. That ownership does not create a residence visa, a bank account, or the right to skip steps that still happen in person.
Four decisions, not one
Keep these apart when you read a package.
Owning the company
Free-zone companies can be fully owned by foreign investors. Many mainland commercial activities can also be fully foreign owned. Strategic-impact activities, and some named activities, are different. Ownership is about the shares, not about where you sleep.
UAE residence
A residence visa is an immigration decision. Golden residency for investors has published capital, property or tax conditions and is not granted merely because a licence exists. A standard residence visa sponsored by the company depends on quota, premises and approval.
Managing remotely
Some licensing steps are online. Who can sign, whether a manager must be resident, and which documents must be notarised abroad still depend on the authority and the legal form.
Banking and KYC
A licence is not a bank account. The bank decides. It can ask for owners, activity evidence and source of funds. AskVi cannot promise that an account will be opened, or that it can be opened without a visit.
Documents and presence
A non-resident shareholder is typically identified with a passport, and with corporate papers if a company owns the shares. If documents are signed outside the UAE, some authorities require notarisation and a translation. A person who already holds UAE residence is often also asked for an Emirates ID. The document guide separates those cases.
Medical fitness, biometrics and Emirates ID enrolment for a residence visa are in-person steps. Forming the company and obtaining residence can overlap in a package, but they are not the same application. Plan for a visit when a visa is part of the goal. Do not plan on every signature being remote.
What a non-resident should decide first
- Whether anyone must live in the UAE in the first year.
- Whether customers are outside the UAE, inside a free zone, or on the mainland.
- Whether a bank account in the UAE is essential, or whether the company can start without one.
- Which passports and which parent companies will be on the file, because attestation follows those countries.
